You Can Determine Your Own Destiny

What Is Destiny?
Some people define “destiny” as the inevitable or predetermined future. In other words, they believe they have no control over their ultimate fate. They believe it will inevitably happen and they have little ability to change their fate. I believe nothing could be further from the truth. You have unlimited ability to chart your own course and to determine your own destiny.
Choosing Your Own Destiny
If you believe, as I do, that you can determine your own destiny, why not go for the gusto? It takes just as much energy to deal with small matters as it does large ones. In my law practice, I have seen examples where it took just as much, if not more effort to handle a $200,000 transaction as it did to handle a multi-million dollar transaction. In terms of results achieved versus the amount of energy expended, the multi-million dollar transaction was a much more beneficial expenditure of energy.
Results Achieved versus Energy Expended
This analysis of results achieved versus energy expended applies not only to the world of business, but also to life itself. Many people spend so much energy dealing with life’s mundane details, that they have little energy left over for life’s important matters. Author Richard Carlson brought out this point in his book: Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff … and it’s all small stuff. This is an excellent book for those of us who need to focus more on what is important.
Small Stuff In Your Life
List “small stuff” in your life that you could devote less energy to:
1. ______________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________
Name three positive things that would happen if you took your focus off these things:
1. ______________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________
My Thoughts
If you’re going to spend energy shaping your destiny, why not shape a grand destiny? It takes just as much energy to shape a mediocre destiny as a grand one.
Consider adopting the following phrase as a motto by which to live your life:
“My destiny says I’m destined for it all.”
Not just a little bit, but all!
Don’t Leave Your Destiny To Chance
You should not leave your destiny to chance. If you leave it entirely to chance, you may not be happy with certain aspects of the outcome. As we just discussed, your destiny is not rigidly fixed. You have unlimited ability to chart your own course and determine your own destiny.
You are constantly faced with choices. Should I look for a new job? Should I go back to school? Should I marry this person or another? Life is full of choices.
List a few choices you have encountered recently:
1. ______________________________________________
2. ______________________________________________
3. ______________________________________________
Make Grand Choices
Each choice you make affects your future. If you take a new job, all the possibilities, both good and bad, related to the old job are gone. All the possibilities, both good and bad, related to the new job will affect your future, and thus your destiny. If you want a grand destiny, you must make grand choices.
Why wait to make these grand choices? Why be afraid to make them? Every day that passes is a day lost. Every new day is a chance to do all the things you have yet to do. Each new day will come and go, taking all of that day’s opportunities and choices with it. Tomorrow will come, whether or not you are prepared, and whether or not you have chosen your path. If you sit around waiting for things to happen, they may never happen. Worse yet, the things that happen may not be what you want.
Given these harsh realities, doesn’t it make more sense to choose now?

I have a very good question do you have plans of putting all these homework things together in a work book. It would be very beneficial.

Joe:
If you pick up a copy of my first book, you will find all of the exercises and MANY more in the book. There’s a link to it in the far right column of my blog site.
These last couple of blog postings have been samples from that book.
