Yet More Superior Thoughts For Your Day

by Stanley Bronstein on September 26, 2008

My job is to keep giving you 5 superior ideas to think about.

Your job is to pick at least 1 of those 5 and do some heavy-duty thinking about it and to then share your thoughts with us as comments below.

1) An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure.

This saying has been around for a long time.

Quite simply, it is often easier to spend a little bit of energy to prevent a problem than it is to fix it later.

As an example, look at the financial credit crisis that is currently going on in the USA and many other parts in the world.

There is a good chance it might wind up costing a trillion dollars by the time it is all said and done.

Yet, much of this cost and this grief could probably have been prevented had credit standards just been a LITTLE BIT tighter over the past few years. If fewer risky loans would have been made, we might not be facing this problem at all.

In other words, we must be conscious and we must think ahead!

2) The Scholars Were Wrong. You CAN Teach An Old Dog New Tricks.

This thought reflects one of my own deeply held personal beliefs.

I believe that no matter how old we get, we can ALWAYS learn new things.

IF OUR MINDS REMAIN OPEN AND WE DO NOT RESIST CHANGE.

Just the other day I spoke with someone who is resisting learning how to do many things on the Internet as well as resisting learning how to use her computer more.

I asked them: Do you plan on being alive for at least another 50 years? They said YES.

I then asked: Do you think this technology is going to go away over that time, or do you think it will become even more commonplace than it is today? They said: We will probably see more of it.

I then said if you don’t want to be left behind, you need to open up and start learning some new tricks.

They agreed.

3) The Universe Needs BOTH Dogs And Butterflies.

This thought continues the theme of balance that is so often mentioned throughout my posts.

To analyze this quote in its most basic manner:

  • The world needs people who go bark, bark, bark and are vigilant.
  • The world also needs people who fly around gently making things look pretty.

We would not be able to get very much done if we didn’t have both.

4) Respect Is Earned, Not Given Freely.

This is something anyone who wants to be a successful leader (or even a successful parent) needs to learn.

You are not going to necessarily be respected just because you are in a position of leadership; just because you have a title.

YOU MUST EARN THAT RESPECT AND YOU MUST CONSTANTLY WORK TO KEEP THAT RESPECT.

No one is going to give it to you for free.

5) You Create Your Own Reality.

The real world is what you see.  The real world is what I see.  Strangely, they are not always the same “real” worlds.

All of us, whether consciously or not, wind up defining what is real for us.  If you believe a problem exists, that problem will exist in your life whether you made it up or not.

In short, you created your own reality (in this case, a negative one).

If you believe there are good things in your life, then that is exactly what you will find.  Good things in your life.

There also is the issue of perspective.  So much of life is determined by how we look at things.

So, I ask you.  How do YOU look at things?

How do I look at things? Positively with lots of passion, aspiration and hope.

Vivienne:

That’s definitely the best way to look at things.
