Wag More – Bark Less

by Stanley Bronstein on December 18, 2009

Meditation for Friday Morning – December 18, 2009

Wag More – Bark less.

What Do I Mean By This Thought?

Dictionary.com defines wag as:

  • to move from side to side, forward and backward, or up and down, esp. rapidly and repeatedly: a dog wagging its tail.

Dictionary.com defines bark as:

  • the abrupt, harsh, explosive cry of a dog.

Wagging is usually associated with a happy, content dog.  When a dog wags their tail, they’re usually happy.

Barking, on the other hand, is usually associated with an unhappy dog.  Barking is a dog’s way of complaining about something.

So, What Do I Really Mean?

It’s simple.  Be happy more and show it.  Complain less.

Today’s Exercise

I want you to think of 5 ways you can be happier.  What are 5 things you can do to be a happier person?

I also want you to think of 5 ways you can complain less.  Specifically, what are 5 things you can do to be more content and gripe less?

A Yin/Yang Kind Of Relationship Between The Two

I suspect that the happier we are, the less we will complain.  I also suspect that the less we complain, the happier we will be.

In other words, they feed off each other.  I want you to also think about that as part of  today’s meditation.

This is really about choosing what we will focus upon, positive or negative.

Will we choose to wag or will we choose to bark.

However, we should realize that some situations DO require barking.

Sometimes negative things can be positive.

WAGGING – Happy (Ways to wag more)

1. Time spent NOT complaining leaves more time available for wagging
2. The act of NOT complaining keeps negative energy out of the air, thus allowing positive energy to enter. More positive energy = More wagging.
3. Doing positive things creates positive energy in the world and around you. Positive energy reinforces itself.
4. Associate with positive people and positive causes.
5. Deciding you WANT to be happy. That’s more than half the battle.

BARKING (Ways to complain less)

1. Negative energy reinforces itself, so we should consider stopping ourselves when we catch ourselves being negative.
2.Being aware as often as possible. Successful people notice things others do not notice.
3. Avoiding negative people.
4. Avoiding negative situations.
5. Deciding you don’t like complaining and that you want to avoid it.
