Vision Quest Project - Day 6 - REPORT

When you are tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you. (Zig Ziglar)
Current Status Report
Day 6 might have been my toughest day so far. I spent a lot of time outside the house today and temptation was all around me.
I’m pretty hungry right now, PLUS my wife and I just watched 90 minutes of delicious looking food being cooked on the Food Network.
BUT, I’M HANGING IN THERE
What Was The Hardest Part Of Day Six?
Around 6:00 PM I almost gave in and made myself something to eat, BUT when I sat down and analyzed it, I realized I’m doing just fine, so I’m sticking to my guns.
I decided from the very beginning that I was going to take this fast, one hour at a time, one day at a time. As of now, I’m sticking to it.
What Did I Eat Today?
Nothing, but I did chew some gum.
What Did I Drink Today?
Purified water. AND, I also slipped (but not in a bad way). I had a can of Diet Dr. Pepper / Caffeine Free.
How Do I Feel?
I feel great. I’m ready to hit the sack, but I feel great.
Making Life Changes
FIRST, I RECOMMEND THAT YOU CONSULT WITH YOUR OWN DOCTOR BEFORE YOU TAKE ANY ACTION, SUCH AS A FAST. I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND I AM NOT GIVING ANY MEDICAL ADVICE. IF YOU DECIDE TO FAST OR TAKE ANY OTHER ACTION, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK, WHICH IS WHY I RECOMMEND YOU SPEAK WITH A MEDICAL DOCTOR BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION.
Once again, I’d like to remind our readers that this is NOT just my Vision Quest Project. It can be yours too. I’m not saying you need to fast, BUT if there is anything you want to work on, join us. You can lend me moral support and encouragement during my Vision Quest and our other readers (and myself), will lend you the moral support and encouragement during your Vision Quest.
I know of a few people who have joined me. I want to get more people signed up.

As a result of your inspiring blog, today I am starting a juice fast to try to lose some weight. I am going to try it for 5 days (Mon-Friday). That said, I will take an evening meal of some fruits and veggies — I am so afraid of not being able to sleep at night due to hunger. I was wondering how you deal with that or if it is even an issue. Also am wondering if I can continue to do my usual exercise routine of a 1 mile walk and some light weight lifting. Would appreciate your thoughts. I read the link on Fasting and it was very helpful to me. I am a 56 year old woman with an office job, so the exercise is pretty important to keep doing if possible. Thanks for your input! Sam

Thank you for your kind words Sam. As far as I know, fruit and veggies never hurt anyone.
HOWEVER, I WANT TO STATE THAT I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND I AM NOT GIVING MEDICAL ADVICE - IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
We each have to do what works best for us and you are the only one who knows what’s best for you.
The way I deal with my hunger is interesting. It’s a technique I learned about 15 years ago when I used to weigh 367 pounds. I would simply pull out a picture of the food I wanted to eat. In this case, it was Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine packages from my freezer. I would look at the picture on the package; imagine what it tasted like; experience the taste in my mouth; then I would put the package back in the freezer without eating it and go back to bed.
I had to do this in the beginning, as I used to eat 2 or 3 meals between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM the next morning. After all, you don’t get up to 367 pounds without working hard on it (grin).
As for the exercise, I would once again say ask your doctor. Personally, I have not been doing my normal exercise routine during my fast, BUT I do manage to get a little walking in each day. My wife and I spent 4 hours in the mall yesterday and I can promise you I walked more than a mile.
I wish you well and keep us informed as to your progress.
