Trust Everyone, But . . .

Trust Everyone, But Remember To Cut The Cards.
(Ronald Reagan)

Trust – Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.

Everyone – Every person.  Everybody.

But – On the contrary; yet.

Remember - To recall to the mind by an act or effort of memory

Cut The Cards – A process wherein an opposing player adds an element of randomness to cards about to be distributed by a dealer, all for the purpose of protecting all the players in the game.

So What Is Being Suggested Here?

Once again, we’re talking more about trust.  Yesterday, we said the way to gain trust is to give trust.

In furtherance of that thought, we’re now taking it a step further.

This quote basically suggests that while you should give your trust, you should not give it blindly.

In other words, once you’ve given your trust, you should continue to monitor the one to whom you’ve given your trust to make sure they’re worthy of the trust you’ve given them.

In other words, make the one who receives your trust earn it.

Two Questions For You

Do you monitor the actions of those to whom you’ve given trust?

  • If so, wonderful.  You’re keeping them honest by doing so.
  • If not, why not?

Do others who have given you trust monitor your actions?

  • If so, don’t be upset.  They’re just keeping you honest.  Assuming you’re honest, their monitoring you will only strengthen the relationship, because they’ll like what they see as a result of the monitoring.
  • If not, may I suggest that you monitor yourself?  That will keep you honest and only serve to strengthen the quality of your relationships in your life.
