The Joy Of Exploration

by Stanley Bronstein on December 10, 2009

As part of my daily 3+ hour walk this morning, I decided to do a little exploring.

While I started off walking in familiar territory, I quickly went past the normal spots and started exploring.

To my great joy, I found the entrance to a trail that I had seen from a bridge above it, but that I could never find.

The amazing thing to me was that the entrance was only a LITTLE BIT FURTHER from where I had walked in the past.

MORAL #1 OF THE STORY

So, what’s Moral #1 of this story?

1) I found great joy by going just a little bit further.

Think about it.  How many times in our lives have we probably missed out on great joy simply because we didn’t go “just a little bit further.”

MORAL #2 OF THE STORY

As I walked along this “new” path, I discovered that it went on for miles and miles and miles right alongside territory that I drive past each and every day.  All of this territory was right there for my enjoyment and I never even knew it existed (even though I have lived in this area for more than 8 years).

So, what’s Moral #2 of this story?

If we bother to open our eyes and look around us, we can discover “new territory” for us to enjoy.

MORAL #3 OF THIS STORY

Moral #3 is that Morals #1 and #2 apply to other areas in our lives.

Don’t be afraid to go just a little bit further sometimes.  Don’t give up, because you might be on the verge of discovering new territory, if you would just go a little further.

Also, re-examine your present situation.  If you do so, you just might discover new things and new experiences that have been around you all the time.
