Success Quote Of The Day – 03/18/2008
by Stanley Bronstein on March 18, 2008
It is harder to be a good winner than a good loser — one has less practice.
– T. E. B. Clarke
Winning is the process of succeeding by striving or effort. It is succeeding by reaching a desired place or condition, usually through hard work.
Losing is the exact opposing. It is failing to succeed. It is failing to reach the desired place or condition.
Practice is the repeated performance or systematic exercise for the purpose of acquiring skill or proficiency. By practicing, we acquire experience. By acquiring experience, we become better at whatever it is we are trying to do.
The above quote suggests that as we go through life, we normally acquire much more practice as losers than we do as winners. I tend to agree. Why is this?
1) It is hard to win. Winning takes a lot of effort; generally a lot more effort than losing does. If it’s easier to lose than it is to win, we will normally see more instances of losing than we will winning.
2) Winning takes hard work and face it, many people are not willing to put in that hard work.
3) Winning, by its very nature often takes time. One of my favorite sayings is that overnight success usually takes about 15 years. Since it takes time, a person won’t actually know they’ve won until some time down the road. Typically, they will experience lots of losing along the way. Face it, we have to make a lot of mistakes (losing) in order to figure out how to do things right (winning). That’s just the way it is.
One person who talks a little about this is Dr. Jim Barahal from Honolulu, Hawaii. In the video below, he talks about how you have to find your niche in life in order to win. Click on the video below to watch him give some very valuable advice in this area.
