Success Quote Of The Day – 03/03/2008

by Stanley Bronstein on March 3, 2008

It is a good thing for an educated man to read books of quotations.

– Winston Churchill

Educated means developing the faculties and powers of a person by teaching, instruction or reading. Teaching and instruction are usually thought of multi-person processes (i.e., someone teaches or instructs you). Reading, on the other hand, is a method for you to teach or instruct yourself. The only teachers or instructors involved are the writer of the book and you, the reader.

Quotations are typically phrases or words repeated from books or speeches that are designed to illustrate a point.

I believe Winston Churchill was trying to make several statements in the above quote. I believe he was saying that an educated man should read books of quotations in order for him to build up a repository of key phrases or words that could be repeated from time to time, all for the express purpose of being able to illustrate a point they are trying to make.

That’s one of the reasons I post a Success Quote of the Day, each and every day. They help me to illustrate the points I wish to make in these blog entries. Hopefully, they serve to educate you, the reader. After all, that is my goal, to help you, the reader, educate yourself.

I have been collecting quotations for over 10 years and at present I have a list of quotes in the thousands. This list almost never lets me down. Whenever I have a point to make, BOOM, there’s a quote on my list that illustrates the point. I’d like to suggest that you begin collecting quotes too. It’s an excellent way to learn and to remember key points and ideas.

In closing, I’m going to leave you with another video clip from Dr. John Blangero, the geneticist from San Antonio, Texas. In this clip, he talks about the value of education and storytelling. I felt this clip was appropriate for this subject, as learning quotations will help you educate yourself and learn how to tell stories better.

John Blangero is one of the persons who wil be featured in my upcoming book:

Who Positioned Themselves To The Top
