Success Quote Of The Day – 02/18/2008
by Stanley Bronstein on February 18, 2008
Learning is not attained by chance. It must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.
– Abigail Adams
Diligence. I love diligence. It is one of my favorite concepts. To me, diligence is the constant effort to accomplish whatever it is that we undertake.
People who know me have often told me I am the most persistent person they have ever meet. I have always taken that as a compliment. to me, it means that I identify where I want to go and I constantly move in that direction and I keep going, no matter how long it takes.
This is a perfect example / explanation of why my favorite animal is the snail. Snails always get where they are going, no matter how long it takes. They always move in a straight direction toward their goal and they get there. I love snails.
Diligent people are my favorite people. They may not be perfect and they may make mistakes, but darn it, they keep trying no matter what. That is the point to be made with this blog entry. The most successful people keep trying no matter what. It is easy for us to be beaten down in our first failed attempt. That happens all the time. The most successful people are the ones who pick themselves up and keep moving forward, DESPITE that initial failure. That is the key.
One of the best examples I’ve every encountered about diligence is the story of Professor Dave Jewitt and his graduate student, Dr. Jane Luu, when they decided to search for the existence of solar system objects outside the orbit of Pluto. All along, they knew they were right, but they constantly met with objections and skepticism. Despite that, they continued in their search and after 5 LONG years they met with success.
Their efforts are as good of an example of diligence as I’ve ever seen. Professor Jewitt’s video about their efforts can be seen below.
Professor Jewitt is one of the persons who wil be featured in my upcoming book:

Until next time, take care.
