Stanley Bronstein - The Attorney

by Stanley Bronstein on February 5, 2008

Deciding to attend law school was a life-changing moment for me. I call those life-changing moments, Achievement IQ Moments. Click here if you want a definition of Achievement IQ.

So, how did I decide to go to law school? I wish I could say it was planned, but that would be untrue.

In late 1987, I was working with my 10 year older brother, Martin, at a real estate brokerage firm we co-founded in 1985. On that one fateful day, late in the year, I had prepared a lease for one of the shopping centers we managed. While leases are typically prepared by attorneys, (not CPAs), I was in the habit of preparing them myself, as it saved money for our clients. After preparing the lease, I showed it to Martin to get his approval. He did not like what I had done. We got into a loud disagreement as to whether or not the language I had written into the lease accomplished our goals. I believed it did; he believed it didn’t.

In any event, in the middle of the argument, he starts telling me (rather loudly as I recall) - “You’re not a lawyer”

I said, you’re right, I’m not a lawyer, but I still believe I’m right and I know what I’m doing.

He then said: “You know what you ought to do?”

I said: “What?”

“You ought to go to law school!”

For some reason, I did not indulge my desire to punch him in the face. Instead I said:

“You’re absolutely right!”

And then, in the fashion of all good Achievement IQers (AIQers), I signed up for the LSAT and law school 2 days later. It took me 4 years, because I went mostly at night, but I became a lawyer. That one single moment changed my life forever! - That is what an Achievement IQ Moment is. A moment that changes your life forever.

I’ve now been an attorney for more than 16 years. I practice primarily in the areas of commercial real estate and in business formations (including the buying and selling of businesses).

So, the bright side is that as you go through this blog, I will be able to share my knowledge and experience as a lawyer, with you …

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you Stumble It!
Until next time, take care, my dear friends.

I am so excited that I stumbled upon your blog, by direct through johnchow.com :)
It makes me feel so relieved that I am not the only individual in this abundant universe who is not just defined by their vocation or career— yes I am a Legal Nurse Consultant, but I am also a songwriter, composer, aspiring author, and currently I am getting ready to start a non-profit organization which is completely based on “What Can You Give?” — so that describes exactly who I am all wrapped in an Entrepreneur package. You truly have such an awesome blog– I have subscribed to your RSS Feeds. I look forward to reading & gleaning all I can from this very good use of “blog” space! You can check out my blog that I just recently started at

Your decision to become a lawyer reminds me of what happened to me on becoming a psychologist. While teaching Transactional Analysis for Teens with my junior high school students, a class I devised for during the lunch hour break, the school”devil” known as the girls’ vice principal came by. During a discussion she said before the entire class, “Remember you are not a therapist!? The next day I cahange my masters degree to marriAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY (from school counseling).. When I passed that exam, I went on to my doctoral program and ultimately became a licensed psychologist. I was asked to write this story and it appears in CHOCOLATE FOR A WOMAN’S Soul and my story is entitled, THE MAGIC OF ANGER By the way, the book is by kaye Allenbaugh.

Soundslike we have something in common.
