Personal Development Update - More About Me

by Stanley Bronstein on April 9, 2008

I figured that since this is a personal development blog, I should take a day off from my usual postings about Success Quotes and instead tell you a little bit about my own current state of personal development. A lot has been happening (all of it good), and I wanted to share some of it with you.

My Health

Back in November 2007, when I was finishing up my nationwide driving tour for my third book, Achievement IQ Moments, I had a little accident. When I was in Austin, Texas, interviewing a woman named Aralyn Hughes, I ruptured my achilles tendon on my left foot. Ouch . . .

How did it happen? Well, let’s just say it was sympathy pain. Sympathy pain for Aralyn’s pet pig named Ara Kaye. What’s that I say, pet pig? Yep, Aralyn has a pet pig.

To make matters worse, Ara Kaye wasn’t being very sociable, because she had previously hurt one of her left legs. So, just to let Ara Kaye know that I felt her pain, I took a misstep over her pig pen and my achilles tendon ruptured. I didn’t know it was ruptured at the time and I actually drove to San Antonio for another meeting and then headed home to Arizona. The fact that it was my left foot was actually a blessing, as it didn’t hamper my ability to drive myself home.

Since that time, I had to wear a boot cast for over 2 months and use crutches for a large part of that time. That definitely wasn’t very fun. Then, when I finally got permission to stop using the boot cast, my leg was still pretty swollen and tender. As a precaution, my doctor had me undergo testing which determined I had a partial DVT (deep vein thrombosis) as a result of having worn the boot cast. Fortunately, it was a partial blockage. and not a total blockage. For those of you who don’t know what a DVT is, it’s the same type of problem that can develop in your legs on very long plane flights.

The treatment for a DVT of that type is to take a blood thinner named Coumadin. What most people don’t know is that Coumadin is basically rat poison . . . The main ingredient is the same as that used to kill rats . . . The way it kills rats is by thinning their blood so much that they bleed to death . . . Let’s just say that I hope I never have to take that stuff again. In my opinion, it is absolutely the nastiest stuff I’ve ever put in my body.

Over the past month, the swelling has pretty much gone away and I’m walking pretty well. I started physical therapy last Friday and the foot is already feeling much better as a result of the exercises they gave me to do. I went to my doctor today and he set me up for another test, tomorrow, to determine whether or not the DVT (blood clot) has cleared. He suspects it has and so do I, but we both want to be prudent and make sure it is gone, rather than just assuming that is the case. IF it is gone, then I get to stop taking that nasty Coumadin . . . I can’t wait.

Also, one of the problems with wearing a boot cast is that it makes it very hard to exercise. Because you can’t exercise, it makes it harder to watch your weight . . . Now that things are clearing up, I can start exercising again . . .

SelfGrowth.com

I’m proud to announce that SelfGrowth.com has just selected me as their “expert” on the subject of Achievement. Over the next 3 or 4 weeks, you will begin to see me linking to articles that I am going to write for their site. In case you’re not familiar with SelfGrowth.com, they are the largest personal growth related website on the Internet. At present, they are getting over 1,000,000 visitors per month. Stay tuned and see how this develops. Good things will no doubt come from this affiliation.

My Third Book - Achievement IQ Moments

I am proud to announce that I just finalized a deal today with a publisher for the publishing of my upcoming third book. If things go according to schedule, the book should be available for distribution in about 4 months. The publishing process is tedious, but it is important that it be done properly to insure distribution in the bookstores. I can’t wait to release this book to the public and you’ve been getting little tidbits of it from my daily blog entries.

The funny thing is that I used “cosmic ordering” to find my publisher. About a week ago I was thinking how hard it is to find a publisher and how great it would be if one simply came to me. Two days later I received an unsolicited email from an excellent publisher who was looking for members of the National Speakers Association who had already finished books. It was a match made in heave. I asked the universe to send me a publisher and two days later it did. I am very grateful.

Basically, the book contains 50 stories of powerful people I interviewed while on my nationwide driving tour. Each chapter contains the story of a particular person or their organization. By reading the book, you will get the opportunity to share my life-changing experience when I interviewed these people.

Most Recent Public Speaking Engagement

I also had the opportunity to present the concept of Achievement IQ to a group of professional speakers at a meeting for the National Speakers Association (NSA). It went well and my ideas were well received.

In Closing

Things couldn’t be going much better for me right now. In a Zen-like manner, I am living in the present moment and enjoying it quite thoroughly. I hope things are going as well for you.

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you Stumble It!
Until next time, take care, my dear friends.
