Opportunity and Temptation
by Stanley Bronstein on October 29, 2008
Opportunity Must Knock While Temptation Just Waits Outside The Door.
Opportunity – A situation or condition favorable for attainment of a goal. A good position, chance, or prospect, as for advancement or success.
Knock – To strike a sounding blow with the fist, knuckles, or anything hard, esp. on a door, window, or the like, as in seeking admittance, calling attention, or giving a signal.
Tempt - To put (someone) to the test in a venturesome way; provoke. To attract, appeal strongly to, or invite. To entice or allure to do something often regarded as unwise, wrong, or immoral.
Wait – To remain inactive or in a state of repose, as until something expected happens. To be available or in readiness.
Active – Engaged in action; characterized by energetic work, participation, etc.. Characterized by action, motion, volume, use, participation, etc..
Passive – Not participating readily or actively; inactive. Being the object of action rather than causing action (opposed to active).
Opportunity Requires An Active Response
Acting upon an opportunity requires an active response. The opportunity must either be created or presented to you and then you must ACT. If you sit and do nothing, the opportunity will pass you by.
Opportunity requires energy.

On The Other Hand, Temptation Is Much More Passive
Temptation is patient.
Patience is one of the strongest powers out there.

So, Which Is Easier, Acting Upon Opportunity Or Acting Upon Tempted?
Acting upon temptation is probably easier than acting upon opportunity, BUT THAT’S PROBABLY NOT WHAT WE SHOULD DO.
Temptation is often prettier, as it provides us with a nice, beautiful picture, right in front of our eyes. All we have to do is sit back and embrace it.
Opportunity, on the other hand, makes us work. It makes us think. BUT, because it makes us work and think, fewer people will follow down that path. Because fewer people (as opposed to temptation) will follow down that path, greater rewards await those who do (follow down that path).
So, I Ask You, Are You Ready?
You need to give yourself a serious self-evaluation here.
In fact, I contend that WE ALL need to be giving ourselves some serious self-evaluation at the moment.
I know that’s what I’m doing.
I’m in the process of strengthening everything that is good in my life and getting rid of everything that is less than good. Reduce your expenses. Reevaluate your budget. Reevaluate how you spend your time. Reevaluate who you spend your time with.
All of these things are important.
Restating The Point I’ve Made The Last Few Days
Yesterday I said the following:
- Old assumptions are dying.
- New “truths” are being created.
In short, this is an opportunity to re-create ourselves.

I’m going to write on this subject more tomorrow, but in the interim, I want to know what you think about these thoughts? Please share them below.
