Mistakes Should Teach You, NOT Defeat You
by Stanley Bronstein on August 11, 2009MISTAKE – An error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc..
TEACH – To impart knowledge or skill to; give instruction to.
DEFEAT – To overcome. To prevail over. To vanquish.
ONE SHOULD NOT FEAR MAKING A MISTAKE
One who worries BEFORE it is necessary worries MORE than is necessary.
That is one of my favorite sayings and I use it ALL the time with clients and friends. As human beings, we have a tendency to fear and to worry.
Think about it for a minute. How many times have you worried about a “potential” problem, only to ultimately find out that the situation you worried about never came to pass. In other words, the problem was not a problem at all.
That same principle can be applied to fear of mistakes. All too often, we spend tons of energy fearing making a mistake, yet the mistake never comes to pass. In other words, we spent way too much energy fearing something that never came to pass.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not suggesting that you become reckless. I’m not suggesting that you don’t take precautions to reduce the possibility of you making a mistake.
I’M ONLY SAYING DON’T LET YOUR FEAR OF MAKING A MISTAKE PARALYZE YOU.
INSTEAD, YOU NEED TO BE COURAGEOUS !
HOW CAN ONE DO THAT
You can overcome your fear of mistakes by realizing that you are going to make them no matter what you do.
Once you realize you are going to make mistakes, you have two choices. Become obsessed by the fact you made the mistake, or to learn from it.
I don’t know about you, but I choose to learn from my mistakes.
Observe Mistakes And Learn From Them. Avoid Criticizing Them, As It Wastes Time And Is Nonproductive.
Letting your mistakes control you is negative. Learning from your mistakes is positive.
