Listening and Looking For Opportunities

by Stanley Bronstein on October 30, 2008

Learn To Listen.  Opportunity Sometimes Knocks Very Softly.

Learn – To gain knowledge or information of; to ascertain by inquiry, study, or investigation; to receive instruction concerning; to fix in the mind; to acquire understanding of, or skill.

Listen -  To pay attention; heed.

Opportunity – A situation or condition favorable for attainment of a goal. A good position, chance, or prospect, as for advancement or success.

Knock – To strike a sounding blow with the fist, knuckles, or anything hard, esp. on a door, window, or the like, as in seeking admittance, calling attention, or giving a signal.

Softly – Not hard or sharp.  Gentle or mild.

Are There Opportunities Out There That Are Trying To Get Your Attention?

I ask this question because I believe your attitude is important.

Do you believe there are opportunities out there?

Do you believe these opportunities out there are trying to get your attention?

If you answered YES to both of these questions, please continue with this article.

What Are You Doing To Look For These Opportunities?

Stupid question time.

1)  If an opportunity walked right in front of your face right now and tapped you on the shoulder, WOULD YOU RECOGNIZE IT?

I think that is a very legitimate question.  It is also a question that is not asked often enough.

2)  Are you taking any proactive steps to create your own opportunities?

Are you networking with other like minded people?  Are you marketing yourself? Or, are you simply sitting back and hoping things will happen?

It’s All About Positioning

The ones who will recognize the most opportunities are the ones who have positioned themselves to be ready to do so.

IF YOU HAVE MADE YOURSELF READY, IN ADVANCE, YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE READY WHEN OPPORTUNITY STRIKES.

That’s what the Laws of Positioning are all about.

The Laws of Positioning contends that one of the most important traits of highly successful people, organizations and even countries, is that they are ready to act when opportunity presents itself.

So, I Ask You, Are You Ready?

You need to give yourself a serious self-evaluation here.

In fact, I contend that WE ALL need to be giving ourselves some serious self-evaluation at the moment.

I know that’s what I’m doing.

I’m in the process of strengthening everything that is good in my life and getting rid of everything that is less than good. Reduce your expenses. Reevaluate your budget. Reevaluate how you spend your time. Reevaluate who you spend your time with.

All of these things are important.

Restating The Points I’ve Made For The Past Few Days

  • Old assumptions are dying.
  • New “truths” are being created.

Hello Stanley,

I recently got done read Setve Pavlina’s book and you mentioned all the core principles here that you suggests you use to fix any personal problem (the bold words are Steve’s, the describes are in my own words based on what I read):

Truth – There are two main points that make the idea/concept of truth:

* The idea of truth is about discovering new truths about who you are and the reality you live, in order to accelerate growth. Gathering new ideas, information, and knowledge about yourself and reality. You are going to grow no matter what experiences you have, but you can consciously/deliberately grow through being open to ideas and seeing if they match your reality through own experience. Be aware of more truths that lead you to what you truly desire.
* This concept is also about recognizing where you are at in your life right now and being 100% honest about it. No denying what is really happening in your reality. No pretending or make believe. Realizing that there is a problem and admitting to it. Acknowledging what you truly desire.

Love – This idea is about connecting with people and things that influence the life you desire. Connecting to the people/things you resonate with most and weakening the connection from people/things that do not reflect the shape or path of the life you prefer.

Connect with people that match the desires you wish to achieve in life. For example, if your desire is to quit smoking, connect with non-smokers. If your desire is to pull yourself out of debt, connect with people who have already freed themselves from debt. If you desire to live consciously, connect with people who are conscious decision makers. Connect only with what you truly desire.

Power – This concept is about taking responsibility for your life, rather than playing a victim. You only have the power to create the life you choose, once you start taking action. You will not take action or give yourself the power to create the life you desire (solving a problem) by giving your power away. Take action and move towards what you truly desire.

You nailed all these points in your article! :)

Thank you for sharing Stanley
