Law #91 – Position Yourself To Be Tremendous

by Stanley Bronstein on July 12, 2008

Law #91

Position Yourself To Be Tremendous

Quote #1Life is tremendous. (Charlie “Tremendous” Jones)

Quote #2Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things – a chance word, a tap on the shoulder, or a penny dropped on a newsstand – I am tempted to think – there are no little things. (Bruce Barton)

Mr. Tremendous Himself – Quote #1

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to begin a conversation about the need to be tremendous without mentioning Mr. Tremendous himself, Charlie “Tremendous” Jones of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Charlie sums it up very simply.

Life – The general or universal condition of human existence.

Tremendous – Extraordinary in excellence. Extraordinarily great in size, amount, or intensity.

Quote #1

It really doesn’t get any simpler than this. Anyone who has ever met Charlie knows that he simply believes every single little thing about life is a gift. Because everything is a gift, it’s tremendous. Charlie is a master of seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. He sees the extraordinary in everything.

That is the message we need to take from Charlie. EVERYTHING IS EXTRAORDINARY AND SHOULD BE APPRECIATED AS SUCH.

I had the good fortune of having dinner and meeting with Charlie “Tremendous” Jones in October 2007. I drove 3 hours to meet with him and 3 hours to return home. It was worth every second. He is a man I will always remember.

If you would like to see some video of Charlie, click here for a few videos of him that are up on my blog:

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones talks about being grateful for everything.

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones talks about hooking kids on reading books.

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones talks about how a person can “find” their gift in life.

When you watch these videos, you’ll see IMMEDIATELY why he’s called Mr. Tremendous.

If you would like to buy any of Charlie’s numerous books (some of which I’m proud to own), simply go to his website at: ExecutiveBooks.com

While Charlie sells books, when you see his prices, you’ll realize that he really “gives them away”. He does that because he believes reading is a lost art and more people need to read. It’s his passion.

Quote #2 – Definitions

Sometimes – On certain occasions or in certain cases but not always.

Consider – To think carefully about, esp. in order to make a decision; contemplate; reflect on. To think, believe, or suppose. To pay attention to; regard.

Consequences – Something that logically or naturally follows from an action or condition.

Little Things – Small matters. Matters that are not large in amount or degree.

Chance Word – A luck or fortunate utterance or conversation. An opportune conversation that was unexpected.

Tap on shoulder – To strike light blows to get a person’s attention.

Penny – A small unit of coinage.

Dropped – The act of allowing or causing something to fall or descend. A swift decline or decrease, as in quality, quantity, or intensity.

Newsstand – A stall or other place at which newspapers and often periodicals are sold, as on a street corner or in a building lobby.

Tempted – To be inviting or attractive to. To cause to be strongly disposed.

Think – To have a conscious mind, to some extent of reasoning, remembering experiences, making rational decisions, etc.. To employ one’s mind rationally and objectively in evaluating or dealing with a given situation. To have a certain thing as the subject of one’s thoughts.

No – Not in any degree or manner; not at all.

Little Things – Small matters. Matters that are not large in amount or degree.

What Does Quote #2 Suggest?

In a different way, Bruce Barton is suggesting EXACTLY the same thing as Charlie “Tremendous” Jones.

Everything has consequences, even our smallest actions. Consequently, EVERYTHING has the ability to be extraordinary and consequently EVERYTHING SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH.

Just like Charlie, Bruce Barton is reminding us that Life is Tremendous. Everything in life is tremendous.

So What’s The Message Behind This Law?

The message is that EVERYTHING is tremendous.  Life is tremendous.  Your children are tremendous.  Your job is tremendous.  This world is tremendous.  You, my friend, are tremendous.

EVERYTHING is Tremendous

When I suggest that you need to “position yourself to be tremendous”, I am simply suggesting that you need to begin to see the extraordinary in everything.  By doing that, you will gain a newfound appreciation for life and will be a much better person as a result.

I really like the part about “hooking kids on reading books.” In the last yr or so I have read many books. many more than I ever did growing up and going through school. Reading is by far one of the best ways to push yourself into growth and to rise above the crowd. why? simply because hardly anyone else is reading more than 1-2 books a year. sometimes I finish a book in 2 days! How far could one get in life if they decided to study/read 1-2 books a month. If they studied books about how to advance in their career, they would likely rise to the top of their industry in a short amount of time simply from the advantage and knowledge they are gaining on their fellow co-workers who choose not to read for a few minutes every day!! think about it! reading is TREMENDOUS!

Book are EVERYTHING. Plus, you can get them for free at the library.

You should see Charlie’s bookstore. You walk in and it’s simply the greatest self-help bookstore I’ve ever seen in my life.

I told Charlie to please lock me in there for a month or two and just slide some food under the door every so often. He laughed . . .
