What Did Goethe Mean By This Quote?
I think he was trying to tell us to not sit on our rear ends and watch life pass us by.
By saying, whatever we can do or dream we can do, he meant that we should examine our personal aspirations. we should look inside of ourselves and ask: What can we do? What do we dream we can do? Those are very important questions.
Momentum
By saying, begin it, he was telling us to get a move on. Go ahead and get started. The very act of getting the ball rolling starts a process within us that will help propel us toward our goals. This process is often referred to as momentum. As Sir Isaac Newton’s first law of motion states: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. While Sir Newton was talking about physical objects, in my opinion, this same law applies to the intangible motivation process within a person.
To rephrase it in my own words, a person who gets off their rear end and starts to work toward achieving their goals tends to continue working toward their goals unless some external or internal force is applied to it. If you notice, I also said internal force. That’s because sometimes, the forces that stop us can come from inside of us and no one else is responsible except ourselves.
Be Bold And Unleash The Genius Within Us All
In the second part of the quote, Goethe suggests that by the very action of beginning, by not hesitating, by not being fearful, we will unleash the genius within us.
As Charles Baudelaire said: Genius Is Nothing More Than Childhood Recovered . . . A Childhood Now Equipped For Self-Expression With An Adult’s Capacities.
Have you ever noticed how much energy and zest for life most children have? Most children are born without fear. We’re all born that way. They’re not afraid to try anything. It’s only as we grow older that we begin to allow limitations to be placed upon us and the world beats us down and removes that boldness, that energy and that zest for life. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way.
By taking action, we will be able to unleash the childhood energies within us all, but we will be doing so as adults, with an adult’s capacities. That’s powerful.
What Will We Gain From Unleashing Our Genius?
By unleashing our inner genius, we will discover that we all have incredible power and incredible abilities. You will discover that you have the ability to do virtually anything you can dream of or imagine. All of us are capable of incredible things, IF we allow ourselves to believe in our abilities, our talents and our ideas.
Until next time, take care, my dear friends.Mr. Achievement
