Our Family Environment
Whenever I speak to a group, especially if it is a group of young people, I like to tell them to believe in themselves. To believe in their abilities, their talents and their ideas. If we could all learn to do that, the world would be full of happier and more powerful people.
From the moment we are born, we are influenced by our environment. If you were lucky, like me, you were told, from the moment you were born, that are capable of doing anything you believe you can do. I was taught that there were no limits on what I could achieve or accomplish.
Unfortunately, all too many people in the world were not as fortunate as I was. Instead, they had parents who constantly filled their minds with limiting beliefs. I recall one occasion, well over 10 years ago, when I overheard a parent introducing his young son as “his little idiot.” I was shocked! I couldn’t believe my ears. His son will go through a large portion of his life (if not all of it), believing that he is an idiot. That is placing an unnecessary and harmful limitation on his son’s beliefs. I didn’t think of it at the time, but I wish I would have responded by saying: “I’m sure you didn’t mean to call your son an idiot. He looks like he’s very smart and capable of doing anything he can put his mind to.”
Our Work Environment
Unfortunately, our work environments are not always conducive to our personal development. I can think of many work experiences where I felt as if I was beaten down and not allowed to express my abilities, talents and ideas.
Some people are fortunate to have excellent bosses and to work for excellent companies. They thrive in those situations.
Others are less fortunate and have terrible bosses and work for terrible companies. In those situations, they merely survive.
The same rules of the game that applied to our family environment also apply to our work environment. If we were in a situation with few limitations, we were able to accomplish virtually anything. If we were in a limiting environment, then we are limited in what we can achieve.
The Environment Inside Our Mind
As adults, we must learn to overcome any limitations that were placed on us by our earlier family and work environments. Instead, we must create an environment, inside our mind, that has no limitations. We must constantly tell ourselves that we have no limitations. We must constantly believe that we have no limitations. It is only then, that we can release our abilities, talents and ideas upon the world and accomplish anything we put our minds to and unleash our personal gifts upon the universe.
Finding Your Gift
In the video below, a highly respected gentleman and public speaker named Charlie “Tremendous” Jones of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania talks about our own personal gifts. He talks about how we should let our own gifts find us. Our gifts are out there and waiting for us to accept them. All we need to do is open up our minds and our hearts and receive them.
Charlie “Tremendous” Jones is one of the persons who will be featured in my upcoming book:
