Position Yourself To Be Appreciative

Appreciative - to be grateful or thankful for; to value or regard highly; to be aware of; to raise in value

Now that we have defined the word appreciative, I ask you a simple question. When in your life have you been appreciative? Are you appreciative now? Are you appreciative only when things are good, or are you appreciative also when things are not quite as good as you would like them to be.

I’ll give you a perfect example of what I’m talking about. In conjunction with the Achievement IQ - 2007 Grand Tour, I drove more than 10,000 miles around the United States. I spent nearly 50 days on the road for this tour. During the tour, I ruptured the achilles tendon on my left leg. Needless to say, it hurt quite a bit. At first, I wasn’t too happy about it and I was even a little bitter. I also couldn’t believe that this happened to me.

Despite that, I began to realize that I was glad the injury happened on my left leg, rather than my right one. Had it happened on my right leg, I might not have been able to drive home from Austin (which is where the injury occurred). Additionally, I would probably not have been able to conduct the California portion of the tour because I would not have been able to drive. Additionally, I would have not been able to drive during the entire portion of the healing process. Somewhere along the way, I began to be grateful that it was my left leg that was injured rather than my right one (all for the reasons listed above). In other words, I learned to be grateful for what I had instead of unhappy about what I didn’t have. That is what appreciation is all about.

One person who knows this is Charlie “Tremendous” Jones of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Charlie talks about the value of being appreciative in extensive detail in the video clip contained below. If you want to hear what he has to say, you should click on the video below.

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones is one of the persons who wil be featured in my upcoming book:
