Law #25

Position Yourself To Be A Dreamer

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world. (Oscar Wilde)

Some Definitions

Dreamer - A person whose ideas or projects are considered audacious or highly speculative; visionary. A person who dreams. (AND A DEFINITION I DON’T LIKE) A person who lives in a world of fantasy; one who is impractical and unrealistic.

Dream - An aspiration; goal; aim. Something of an unreal beauty, charm, or excellence. To see or imagine in sleep or in a vision.

Moonlight - The light of the moon. Occurring by moonlight, or at night.

Punishment - A penalty inflicted for an offense, fault, etc..

See - To have a mental image of; visualize. To understand. To comprehend. To believe possible; imagine. To take note of; recognize.

Dawn - The first appearance of daylight in the morning. The beginning or rise of anything; advent. To begin to be perceived.

Before - Previous to; earlier or sooner than. Ahead of; in the future of; awaiting.

Rest Of - The remainder of.

World - Humankind; the human race; humanity. The public generally.

Double Entendre - A word or expression used in a given context so that it can be understood in two ways. In French, entendre means understanding.

What Does This Quote Mean?

To me, it has multiple meanings, which is why I included the definition of double entendre along with all the other definitions.

Just consider each of the words:

Dreamer - This can either be a visionary, or a person who lives in a fantasy world. In my experience, it is often people who live on the edge of fantasy who make positive changes that will affect the world.

Punishment - Punishment is usually thought of as a bad thing, BUT if you are a visionary, being punished for seeing things before others is potentially a good thing. Personally, I have made a living out of seeing things others do not see and seeing them before others do.

See - To visualize and to comprehend; to understand. I prefer to use the word “see’ in its more expansive meaning of comprehension / understanding.

Dawn - Literally, this is the start of the day. HOWEVER, it can also be the beginning; the advent of something great. It literally is the beginning of perception.

Before - Prior to; or in advance of. I prefer to think of it as being ahead of others. By seeing things before others, you are ahead of others.

So, What Does This Quote REALLY Mean?

Quite simply, it means that if you allow yourself to dream. If you release all your inhibitions and allow yourself to move beyond them, you will be a visionary. Anyone who has read the definition of Achievement IQ knows that the first component of highly successful people is VISION.

AND, not only will you see things, you will also see them before others see them. That gives you a tremendous advantage.

That’s what this is all about.

Achievement IQ - What Is It?

This seems like a good time to restate the definition of Achievement IQ:

Achievement IQ and the Laws of Positioning
a • chieve • ment iq n - A measure of a person’s or an organization’s ability to

  • recognize details and opportunities most others do not see, thus putting themselves IN A POSITION of readiness (VISION);
  • put themselves IN A POSITION to attract opportunities (ATTRACTION);
  • POSITION THEMSELVES to be ready to take advantage of these opportunities once they do come their way (READINESS); and
  • then take action upon these opportunities in a manner that most others would not, thus putting themselves IN A POSITION to be more successful than most (ACTION).

What Should We Dream About?

Personally, I believe we should allow our dreams to be huge.  We should feel free to dream about practically anything.  It is only when enough people in this world start to dream BIG, HUGE dreams, that things will start to happen that will make this world a better place.

So, I encourage you to dream about practically anything.  JUST MAKE SURE YOU DREAM !!!

Encourage Everyone Around You To Dream

Encourage EVERYONE around you to dream, ESPECIALLY YOUR CHILDREN.  Cultivating the power of dreaming is a VITAL component of raising our children.  Almost every problem I encounter in adults, can be traced back to children who were not taught to dream while they were growing up.

Don’t Ever Let Someone Tell You Your Dream Is Impossible

This one is vital.  Don’t ever, ever, ever, ever, ever allow someone to tell you that your dream is unreasonable and will never happen.  It may be difficult, it may be unlikely, but very few things are impossible.  Nourish your dreams.  Dream constantly.  Learn to believe that you can constantly accomplish more than you ever dreamed possible.

Sharing Your Dreams With Others

One of my favorite sayings is:

Don’t share your goals with trolls . . .

For those of you who don’t know, trolls are these little hideous creatures who live under bridges.

One thing I’ve learned in this world is that there is (unfortunately) no shortage of people who will tell you that you are nuts, or that your dreams is unreasonable or that your dream is impossible.  I say, those are NOT the people you want to share your dreams with.

INSTEAD, share your dreams with people like me.  People who believe in your ability to accomplish.

One Last Thought

Always believe in yourself; in your abilities; in your talents; in your ideas.  There is no limit to what you can accomplish, IF YOU BELIEVE THAT IS THE CASE.

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you Stumble It!
Until next time, take care, my dear friends.
