Law #101 – Position Yourself To Be Centered
A Mind At Peace, A Mind Centered And Not Focused On Harming Others, Is Stronger Than Any Physical Force In The Universe (Wayne Dyer)
Some Definitions First
Centered – Self-confident, goal-oriented, and well-balanced. Being at or placed in the center.
Peace – Freedom of the mind from annoyance, distraction, anxiety, an obsession, etc.. Tranquility; serenity.
Focused – Concentrated upon.
Harming – Physical or psychological injury or damage.
Stronger – More powerful. More vigorous. More able. More competent. More influential.
Physical – Of or pertaining to that which is material.
Force – Power to influence, affect, or control.
Universe – A world or sphere in which something exists or prevails.
Are You Centered?
Being centered is very similar to being focused, BUT it’s not quite the same thing.
Being focused is concentrating your energies and thoughts in one direction.
Being centered is focusing / concentrating your energies and thoughts in the RIGHT direction.
With that “clarification”, I ask you to consider . . . Are you centered ???
Let’s Take A Look At The Quote For A Minute
The quote suggests two very powerful thoughts:
1) Being focused on the right things (i.e. being centered); and
2) Not being focused on harming others.
To me, Wayne Dyer is making 2 suggestions.
1) We should make sure that we are NOT focused on harming others; and
2) Once we do that, we should focus on doing the right things.
In other words, NOT HARMING OTHERS is one of the right things . . .
Let’s Look At Some Other Quotes On “Being Centered”
No One Can Find Inner Peace Except By Working, Not In A Self-Centered Way, But For The Whole Human Family (Peace Pilgrim)
- In this quote, she suggests that while being centered is important, we focus our efforts more in the direction of helping others (the whole human family), as opposed to be self-centered and focusing just on ourselves.
A New Way Of Thinking Has Become The Necessary Condition For Responsible Living And Acting. If We Maintain Obsolete Values And Beliefs, A Fragmented Consciousness And Self-Centered Spirit, We Will Continue To Hold Onto Outdated Goals And Behaviors. (the 14th Dalai Lama)
- In this quote, the Dalai Lama suggests, once again, that we must not focus just on ourselves. We must not be predominantly self-centered.
So What Should We Center On?
The author Stephen R. Covey suggests that we focus upon principles. Here’s one of his thoughts on the subject:
People With A Scarcity Mentality Tend To See Everything In Terms Of Win-Lose. There Is Only So Much; And If Someone Else Has It, That Means There Will Be Less For me. The More Principle-Centered We Become, The More We Develop An Abundance Mentality, The More We Are Genuinely Happy For The Successes, Well-Being, Achievements, Recognition, And Good Fortune Of Other People. We Believe Their Success Adds To . . . Rather Than Detracts From . . . Our Lives. (Stephen R. Covey)Are you beginning to see a theme here ? Once again, Stephen Covey suggests that we learn to think center a little bit less upon ourselves and more on others.
So I ask you, have you centered at least a little bit of your focus today on the needs of someone else ?
That’s what being centered is all about.

I certainly agree that we should focus on centering and personal development. To me that includes developing a mission in life, a higher purpose that drives interest, motivation and activity. If anyone would like to read more about a philosophy that is built to a large degree on Peace Pilgrim I would suggest “Wholeness in Living”. http://www.WholenessInLiving.com
