Great Achievements Involve Great Risk.
Great – Unusual or considerable in degree, power, intensity. Wonderful. Notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding.
Achievement – Something accomplished, especially by superior ability; special effort; great courage; etc. Accomplishments.
Involve – Included as a necessary circumstance, condition or consequence. Associated with.
Risk – Exposure to the chance of injury or loss. A hazard or dangerous chance.
So What Is Being Suggested Here?
Today’s meditation contains a simple concept. Unfortunately, it is so simple that people usually overlook it.
Quite simply, this meditation echoes the commonly used phrase – No guts; no glory.
If you aren’t willing to lose, you’re going to find it difficult to win.
The more you’re willing to lose, the greater the likelihood you will win.
Why?
A lot of life is a numbers game. The more opportunities we give ourselves to win; the greater the likelihood we will eventually win.
We have to be willing to take risks.
Additionally, the greater the achievement we want, the riskier the road will be to achieve it.
This means that the greater the achievement you are striving for; the greater the likelihood you will fail.
But, it’s the one’s who fail the most who achieve the most. That’s because people who fail over and over and over keep trying. They know that if they keep trying, something will eventually work.
Does this mean we should take “stupid” risks? Absolutely not. We should be careful to take intelligent risks; risks designed to increase the likelihood of our success.
We’ll talk more about the nature of risk in tomorrow’s meditation.
