Faith And Trust

by Stanley Bronstein on March 20, 2010

Meditation for Saturday – March 20, 2010

Faith Is Not Belief Without Proof.
It’s Trust Without Reservations.

Faith – Confidence or trust in a person or thing.

Not - Used to express negation, denial, refusal or prohibition.

Belief – Confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof.

Without – Free from; excluding.  Not accompanied by.

Proof – Evidence sufficient to establish a thing as true, or to produce belief in its truth.

Trust – Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc. of a person or thing.  Confident expectation of something.

Reservations – The act of keeping back, withholding, or setting apart.

So What Is Faith?

You’ve probably often heard the phrase, “blind faith.”  That phrase implies that in order to have faith, it is necessary for one to believe in something, even if there is an absence of evidence.

This meditation puts a “spin” on that thought.  Instead of focusing on whether or not there is evidence of something and on whether or not one believes in that something even in the face of little or no evidence, it instead focuses on something more important.

It focuses on trust!  It focuses on unconditional, no holds-barred trust.

Faith that is based upon belief is believing in something external to you.

Faith that is based on trust is believing in yourself.  It’s believing in something that is internal to you.

Questions For You

I ask you.  What do you believe in?  What do you trust unconditionally?

If you have strong faith that is based upon trust, you will have the energy necessary to persevere in the face of nearly any adversary.
