Dreams - A Shaman’s Tale of Life and Purpose

I Had An Interesting Dream Last Night
I was on an airplane. I was not traveling with any other family members. It was a fairly small airplane and might have had about 50 people on it.
I remember 2 people from the dream.
One was Rodney Dangerfield, the late comedian. That was probably not unusual, as I had listened to some of his comedy routines earlier in the day on the radio, so he was obviously on my mind. That kind of thing happens to me ALL the time. In fact, earlier in the night I had a previous dream that contained Reese Witherspoon, which coincidentally happened 5 minutes after I got through watching her movie Legally Blonde on TV. Sometimes our dreams use characters and events that recently happened, just because they were recently on our minds.
The second character was a mysterious gentleman, whom took the role of a flight attendant (but I believe he was oh so much more.
Here’s What Happened As The Dream Progressed
Somewhere along the way, I began to sense there was something unusual about this flight. Things just did not seem quite right.
- The flight attendant kept asking all of us strange questions (especially me) and kept wanting to make sure we were comfortable.
- The flight attendant had several (and I do mean several) conversations with the pilots in the cockpit of the plane (more than is typical).
- Rodney Dangerfield, after a series of conversations with the flight attendant, began performing his comedy routines in the aisles of the airplane to keep us entertained and distracted.
- I noticed from looking out the windows that the airplane seemed to be flying a little lower than one might consider normal.
- The flight attendant then told us that something was wrong with the “atmosphere” of the plane and we all needed to eat some of the “mineral salts” that he was about to pass around. BUT, he continually assured us that it was no big deal, so we should not be concerned.
- The flight attendant then proceeded to go up to the front of the plane and “prepare” the mineral salts, using many incantations and prayers. To me, it reminded me of an Indian shamanistic ritual (or something similar). These were prayers and incantations, not “routine preparations.”
- The flight attendant (and their assistant) then began to distribute the mineral salt preparation to all the passengers and to the pilot.
- While distributing these preparations, the flight attendant took me aside and said he had a special task for me. I was selected as the one person who needed to go “outside” and ride on the skin of the airplane to help “guide” the pilot to bring in the plane for a landing. I readily accepted this task.
- Right before I went outside, I heard the pilot come on the announcement system and tell us that there were evidently pressurization problems with the plane and that we were going to fly at an altitude of 2000 feet while we were coming in. They also said that we have been given priority to land, so the good news is that we’ll probably be “early.”
- At that time, I was placed outside the plane and I began riding on it’s skin. I was primarily on the right side of the plane, so I didn’t have a very good view of the left side.
- As we began to approach our destination, I remembered thinking that we seemed to be a heck of a lot lower than 2000 feet off the ground. It seemed more like 500 feet to me. I knew something wasn’t quite right.
- We started out by flying in very low over trees and unpopulated ground. VERY LOW. I remembered thinking I wasn’t sure if we were going to clear some tree tops, yet somehow, we always did. I was scared, BUT also excited at the same time.
- Then we started moving in over populated areas and I all of a sudden had to start worrying about whether or not we cleared buildings, as opposed to trees. Once again, we somehow managed to keep clearing them, ALL while I could hear the pilot make announcements that everything was normal and that we had been given priority to land.
- Then, as we began to approach the airport, I saw our right wing “clip” a nearby telephone pole. I thought to myself that if that’s the first thing I’ve seen from the right side of the plane, I’m sure the left has probably hit one or more things and the underbelly of the plane might be having problems also.
- Here’s where it gets good. I remember the plane began to slowly and continually descend toward the ground. When we got within a few hundred feet of the ground, the plane began to spiral downward, gently, smoothly and under control. The plane then touched down on an open piece of ground, far short of the airport, but with little or no damage to the physical structure of the plane.
- I then hopped off the plane and started walking around. I had newspaper reporters and innocent bystanders come up to me and start asking me questions about what had happened and what was going on.
- No one was sure if any of the passengers had survived and they were surprised I had survived.
- I then realized that I had one more mission to fulfill besides riding on the outside of the plane and guiding the pilot.
- I looked inside the plane and found what I can only think of as a magical jar. Someone from the crowd told me it was a “jar of life.”
- I took the jar out and gently opened the lid and spilled out the contents. The contents contained small figures that resembled each of the passengers on the plane.
- I then pored water on each of the small figures and they began to swell and each of the passengers from the plane woke up and all of them, but three were okay and began walking around. The shaman, Rodney Dangerfield (who has already passed away) and the pilot were the only people who did NOT wake up.
- I then woke up with a tremendous feeling of power and purpose. That’s when I decided I needed to get up and write this post while it was still fresh in my mind.
What This Dream Meant To Me
- The flight attendant was a shaman. A shaman is: a person who acts as intermediary between the natural and supernatural worlds, using magic to cure illness, foretell the future, control spiritual forces, etc.
- Rodney Dangerfield was there simply because he was in my thoughts. He served as a diversion from the real danger at hand (interesting that “danger” is part of his name).
- The shaman / flight attendant knew that everyone’s lives were in danger and that their safety was entrusted to him. He made the necessary preparations and did everything within his power to safeguard their lives.
- The shaman then knew that he was not going to survive this ordeal and he searched out to find his replacement. He chose me !!! - That blows me away and makes me feel incredibly powerful when I think about it.
- The events then unfolded and we were left with all passengers being safe, except for the shaman , Rodney Dangerfield and the pilot.
- I realized that it was now my job to take over for the shaman, as I had been chosen as his replacement.
What The Dream Made Me Realize
- It reminded me that I do have a purpose in life and that I am here for a reason.
- It empowered me and made me realize I have more power than I have ever imagined.
- I had been chosen to survive for a reason and that as a result of that reason, I have responsibilities that must be fulfilled.
- It reminded me that MY PURPOSE IN LIFE IS TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE FIND THEIR PURPOSE IN LIFE AND ACHIEVE IT.
