Distractions Are Unreal

Distractions Are Unreal. They Only Exist, IF You Let Them.
While the title of the post is about Distrations, it’s really about focusing.
Why is that? It’s because often the solution to our problems lies in looking at the flip side.
If we want to focus more, we need to learn to be distracted less.
That’s why I’m talking about distractions today.
Work Is Hard. Distractions Are Plentiful. And Time Is Short. (Adam Hochschild)
The above cartoon says it all. Distractions are plentiful.
There is no shortage of distractions (and potential distractions in our lives).
And every single one of them is usually more fun than working (by work, I mean the things we need to focus on).
Let’s look at the list of distractions from the cartoon:
Flying a kite outside;
Playing music on a guitar;
Watching TV;
Reading a book;
Phoning a friend;
Playing with some electronic games;
Eating food in the kitchen; and
Taking a nap.
All of those are probably more fun than working (the things we need to focus on).
So How Do We Make The Things We Want To Focus On More Fun?
Two ways:
- Chose our work more carefully (whenever possible) so that we only work on things we are interested in;
- Learn to have more fun while doing whatever it is we are focusing on.
Let’s take a closer look at these.
Finding Work You Love
If you are fortunate, as I am, to have found your calling in life (i.e. your purpose in life) then will enjoy most everything you have to do that is work related.
So, how do you do this? There is so much involved in doing this that I’ve actually written a book on the entire subject.
That book is called Achievement IQ: Find Purpose In Your Life & Achieve Massive Success.

Learning To Love Whatever Work It Is That You Are Doing
The way to do this is to change your thinking - to change your mindset.
Happiness is a state of mind.
If you choose to be happy, it is much more likely that you will be happy.
What’s the best way to be happy? Believe it or not, it is to choose to no longer be unhappy.
That is what I did a long time ago (and continue to work on each and every day).
Choosing to be happy is a never-ending project, but it is one that all of us CAN and SHOULD embrace.

Until next time, take care, my dear friends.Mr. Achievement

I had a doing what you love vs doing what you hate experience this week. I am in the process of changing my major at school and I went to Vo Tech to see what classes they offer and they only offer workshop types of classes I don’t want a workshop style class I want a formal degree program. The workshop class would be great, but for the price of the workshop I could by the software and the book and teach myself. Don’t get me wrong being self taught does have its rewards, but I love going to the university we have here. It is small and I get a lot out of the classes.
I am determined to continue to do what I want to do with my future.

Joe:
If you’re paying for the education, you need to get your needs fulfilled from it. It seems to me that you already know this.
Keep it up. Nothing wrong with learning. I’ve been out of law school for 17 years but the learning has never stopped.
