Happiness Is Not A Matter Of Intensity,
But Of Balance, Order, Rhythm And Harmony.
(Thomas Merton)

Balance – State of equilibrium. Equal distribution. Steadiness or stability.
Order – Methodical or harmonious arrangement. A condition in which each thing is properly disposed with reference to other things and to its purpose. A condition of being proper and satisfactory.

Harmony – A consistent, orderly, or pleasing arrangement of parts. Agreement; accord; unity; peace; amity; conformity; correspondence; consistency.
Today’s Meditation
Today’s meditation emphasizes that balance is a necessary component for our happiness.
Just think about it. How can we be happy if things in our life are drastically out of balance?
If our life is drastically out of balance, we’ll constantly be going up and down; from high to low, just as if we were on a roller coaster.
Such a condition adds way too much stress in our lives.
Balancism stresses that by achieving a state of balance, we are able to relax and enjoy ourselves, rather than having to constantly deal with the ups and downs life can bring.
Some Components Of A Balanced Life
Just as the opening quote suggests, order, rhythm, and harmony are key components of a balanced life.
As we seek to obtain greater balance in our lives, we should seek to put things in order. We should seek to establish a balanced rhythm that will help us achieve the harmony we should seek.
Analysis
As you meditate upon this thought, ask yourself the following questions:
- Am I balanced as a whole?
- Is there order in my life or disorder?
- Do my days follow a rhythmic pattern, or a chaotic one?
- Do I feel at peace with myself and the world around me?
Until next time, take care.
