A Good Day And I Appreciate It
by Stanley Bronstein on May 15, 2009I’VE HAD A GOOD DAY AND I APPRECIATE IT
I had a good day today. Even though it was a “work” day, I sort of took time off.
Today was my wife’s birthday, so we both decided to go visit a place in Arizona known as Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake is basically a “mini” version of the Grand Canyon.
Lots of great mountains, lots of interesting rock formations, all surrounding a valley that is filled with lake water.
I’d never been there before, despite having driven within 15 miles of it countless times over the past 8 years I’ve been in Arizona.
That’s one of the beautiful things about living in such a large state. You can think you’ve visited just about everywhere and all of a sudden you realize there are multiple places you have yet to visit.
THE DAY STARTED OUT, AS I EXPECTED, BUT ROUGHER THAN NEEDED
I have a big deal I’ve been working on for the past 2 weeks. I’ve been trying to have the other parties in the deal get me the necessary information for 2 weeks.
I’ve known that I would be available for all of the time, EXCEPT for part of the day today (a Friday).
Why, oh why, am I not surprised that the other parties waited until Friday to get me the information I needed to finalize the deal.
The beauty is this. They got it to me at 7:30 AM Arizona time. By sitting down for the next 2 1/2 hours, I got everything done I needed to do RIGHT BEFORE it was time for us to leave.
BUT, I HAVE A QUESTION, Why oh why does it seem that I’m ALMOST ALWAYS ready BEFORE others in my deals. I then have to wait for them and they almost NEVER, EVER, EVER get it to me before Friday. It’s almost like they know ALL WEEK that they need to get things done, but they procrastinate AS LONG AS THEY CAN and then finally get me what I need.
Procrastination is definitely something I need to blog about in the near future.
GETTING AWAY FROM MY CELL PHONE
I was in “cell phone hell” for 4 hours today. I was in an area that was 10 miles away from cell phone service, yet because of where I was – BOOM, NO CELL PHONE SERVICE.
Yet, somehow, I managed to survive.
I still have problems with this for the following reasons.
Most people (who are employees), hate the fact that they are available 100% of the time just because they have a cell phone.
I, on the other hand, as a self-employed person who makes most of his money because he is available to his clients almost 100% of the time, like having my cell phone.
I want to be available, EVEN WHEN I’M ON VACATION. I remember when I was on vacation in Hawaii in 2007 and I got a few phone calls. I then proceeded to work for about 4 hours and I paid for more than 1/2 of our vacation.
I happen to think that’s a good thing.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ???

Nice to hear you’ve had a good day Stanley! Working 4 hours on vacation to pay for 1/2 of it sounds like an AWESOME deal. Hell, I’d work 8 hours during vacation without a problem if it paid for the whole thing. =) Sign me up!
