6 Reasons To Gain Control Of Your Life

by Stanley Bronstein on October 12, 2008

1) One Who Can Destroy A Thing, Controls A Thing.  (Frank Herbert)

This is the MAIN REASON of them all.

If you can destroy something (or someone), you control it.

Think about it, who controls your life more than anybody else?  YOU !!!

So, what does that mean.  It means the exact opposite.  If you can control a thing, you probably have the power to destroy it.

So, if we are the ones who have the most control over ourselves, we are the ones with the greatest power to destroy ourselves.

CAN YOU THINK OF A BETTER REASON TO GAIN CONTROL IN YOUR LIFE ?

2) Whoever Controls What You See Controls What You Think.

This thought pertains to ALL forms of media,  Internet, television, radio, print, whatever . . .

Whether you realize it or not, DECISIONS ABOUT WHAT WE SEE ARE BEING MADE ALL THE TIME.

Does that mean someone evil is trying to manipulate us?  In some circumstances yes, BUT I prefer to think kinder thoughts.

Most of the time, I believe what we see is controlled out of misunderstanding, as opposed to intentional manipulation.

For example, for years and years and years, everyone said the economy of the United States was in great shape.  However, as a lawyer handling multi-million dollar transactions, I had a different point of view.

Personally, I’ve had concerns about the economy for several years, BUT media didn’t catch up to this until just recently.

NOW, LET’S FLIP THAT OVER.  The media is now saying that the world is coming to an end.

I do NOT believe that.  I believe we are hurting; I believe adjustments need to be made, BUT I BELIEVE THINGS ALREADY ARE AND WILL GET BETTER.

Why do I believe that?

Because I believe people have had a paradigm shift.  They are looking at the world differently than they ever have before.

So, I’m recommending that we can control over what we see, AND WHAT WE CHOOSE TO SEE, so we can gain control over what we think.

3) You Can Not Always Control Circumstances, But You Can Control Your Own Thoughts.  (Charles Popplestown)

Bad things happen to people ALL the time.

We can’t always control that.  BUT, we can control how we deal with it.

This is one thing that I’m constantly working on.  I have things happen daily that I don’t like.  That’s just the way it is.

BUT, I am starting to pay more attention to how I handle those things.  THAT IS WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT.

Our thoughts control our reality and I have chosen to take control of my thoughts.

You need to do the same.  RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.

4) He Who Controls The Present, Controls The Past.  He Who Controls The Past, Controls The Future. (George Orwell)

This is an interesting thought.  Here’s how I interpret it.

In order to gain control of our present, we have to gain control of our past.  IN OTHER WORDS, we have to gain control over everything negative that has happened to us previously in our lives.

NOW, here’s the interesting part.

By virtue of having gained control of our present (by having gained control of our past), we then have the ability to control our future !

This is a beautiful piece of logic by Mr. Orwell.    For anyone who ever took a logic / philosophy class in college its:  If A then B.  If B then C.  A exists, therefore C.

If you control your past, you control your present.  If you control your present, you control your future.  SO, if you control your past, you control your future.

I love it.

5) Control Is Never Achieved When Sought After Directly.  It Is The Surprising Outcome Of Letting Go.  (James Arthur Ray)

This thought is Zen at it’s best.  It is only be letting go that we obtain that which we seek.

If you want to be successful, you have to let go all thoughts and worries about success.

Instead, you have to just go out and do your best and things will happen.

The same thing applies with control.  So, if you want to gain control, you have to just let go and allow things to happen.

Follow all the other principles, do the best you can, but let go.

6) You Cannot Control Your Wind, But You Can Control Your Sails.

This is similar to Thought #3 above.  Sailers learned this one a long time ago.

You can’t control what the wind around you is doing, BUT you can control your sails (what you are going to do about it).

Just think of today’s economic climate.  You can’t control it.  BUT, YOU CAN CONTROL HOW YOU DEAL WITH IT.

Take the necessary steps, do whatever you need to do and THEN SURVIVE.

HERE IS MY PREDICTION:

Those who survive the current economic crisis will thrive as conditions get better.
