5 Ways To Maintain Productivity

by Stanley Bronstein on January 28, 2009

Guest Post Written By Holly McCarthy

Maintaining productivity is an involving process that requires planning, discipline, and execution to achieve desired results. Once all of these aspects are in place, productivity is something that is easy to come by. If you are having trouble being productive, there are some simple steps that can be taken to overcome this obstacle. What follows is a brief list of ways to maintain a productive lifestyle.

1) Evaluate Needs

The first thing that you need to do is to evaluate what needs to happen in any given endeavor. The desired result should always be considered when looking for the best way to maintain productivity. Once the needs have been established and prioritized, it is quite easy to move forward and get started down the road to productivity.

2) Set Achievable Goals

Once your needs and desired results have been established, it is time to set some goals. Break larger projects into manageable chunks so that progress is easy to track. If you are having trouble meeting the goals that you set for yourself, scale things back. After you are able to achieve the goals that you set for yourself with ease, work on making things increasingly more difficult and watch your productivity soar as a result.

3) Monitor Progress

Monitoring the progress of your endeavors is a great indicator as to how you are doing overall. If you are easily able to achieve goals that you have set out for yourself, take on more work and fill in the gaps with more goals. You will quickly see that productivity is more of an endurance game than anything else. As you see yourself progressing, take on more until you have fulfilled your long term goals. Then all you have to do is continue to monitor and maintain your level of productivity.

4) Make Necessary Adjustments

Not all projects or undertakings are created equal. This means that the same standards you have set for yourself will not always apply. Sometimes you will need to scale back on the amount of work you take on; at other times, you will find yourself with a surplus of time. Do your best to manage your time and your life so that you are able to make the necessary adjustments to ensure that you are productive and producing at a level you are satisfied with at all times.

5) Continuing Learning And Growing

In order to make sure that what you are doing is still relevant as the time passes, it is of paramount importance that you continue learning and growing within your given field. The benefits of lifelong learning will help your intellect, your career, and ultimately your pocketbook. Never underestimate the power of knowledge and keep growing and learning to better yourself and to continue being a beacon of productivity.

I am finding more and more people who set goals but then do not know who to take action to get them done. They think the big goal picture is the thing to do. Put a picture up and then it magically happens. Steps to reaching that goal are important. I find fewer and fewer people actually willing to take steps because they believe the hype that it will just happen.
