3 More Superior Thoughts – Again From Dale Carnegie

TODAY, WE’RE GOING TO BE FOCUSING ON 5 SUPERIOR THOUGHTS FROM ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS, DALE CARNEGIE.
Your job is to pick at least 1 of those 5 and do some heavy-duty thinking about it and to then share your thoughts with us as comments below.
1) If You Are Wrong, Admit It Quickly And Emphatically.
How many of you have ever made a mistake ?
I know I’ve probably made at least a few (hundred / thousand) in my life.
But, making the mistake is not the issue here. The issue is recognizing you made the mistake and admitting it QUICKLY and STRONGLY !
Do you know what happens when you admit you’ve made a mistake? You show others that you are human and they appreciate you more.
Unfortunately, people all too often refuse to admit their mistakes and want everyone to believe they’re perfect.
Also, we live in a world today where EVERYONE tries to cover their rear end. Very few people want to take responsibility for their actions.
Well, if this world is ever going to improve, THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE NOW.

2) To Produce The Best Results, Throw Down A Challenge.
Dale Carnegie used to tell a story of a group of factory workers that had a day shift and a night shift. The foreman, simply by daring each shift to outdo the work of the other shift, increased productivity tremendously.
The fact of the matter is that people, in general, respond better to challenges.
Just look at the current negative economic climate going on in today’s world. People are responding and making changes in their lives, all of which probably should have been made years ago, BUT weren’t made until they faced today’s economic challenges.
They were ALWAYS prepared to make the necessary changes, BUT they didn’t make them until they thought they were necessary.

3) Let The Other Person Save Their Face.
Arguing might win us a battle, but it might also cost us the war.
If someone else admits they are wrong; if you wind up winning a disagreement with someone; what is to be gained if we then proceed to beat them into the ground.
If you embarrass someone; if you make them look bad; all you will do is make an enemy.
I don’t know about you, but a lot of my energy is devoted to NOT making enemies.
Just yesterday, I was negotiating a business deal and the other party did something that I basically took as a personal insult. When I pointed it out, I believe they realized that they had insulted me and they were sorry (even though they didn’t admit it). Notwithstanding, I kept my mouth shut and I did NOT throw it back at them. I simply dropped the matter and let them save their face.
Whether or not I choose to do business with them in the future remains to be seen, BUT, by not embarrassing them; by letting them off the hook; I’ve increased the chances I may ultimately wind up getting what I want (if we wind up doing business together in the future).
